Airbnb linen is unique in that it's shared by dozens of different people. Unlike a household where the same people use the linen, Airbnb bedding comes into contact with different microbes, allergens, and bacteria with every guest.

60°C is the sweet spot that:

• Eliminates 99.9% of bacteria, mold, and dust mites
• Removes organic stains (sweat, body oils, blood)
• Maintains reasonable fabric lifespan (80–120 cycles vs. 60–80 at 90°C)
• Is recommended by hygiene organizations for the hospitality industry

When to Use 40°C

40°C has its place in Airbnb laundry:

• Decorative cushions and accessories that don't come into direct contact with guests
• Wool or delicate fabrics with explicit low-temperature washing instructions
• Throws and blankets used purely decoratively

Never at 40°C: bedding, bed linen, towels, bath sheets.

Temperature's Effect on Fabric Lifespan

Concerns about fabric wear at 60°C are valid — but overstated. Quality cotton linen (180 g/m² and above) lasts 80–120 cycles at 60°C. At 15 turnovers per month, that's 5–8 years of lifespan.

Cheap linen (100–150 g/m²) lasts only 30–50 cycles regardless of temperature. Invest in quality.

How to Reduce Wear When Washing at 60°C

• Don't overload the machine — max. 80% capacity
• Use a gentle program (60°C eco, not 60°C intensive)
• Add fabric softener to every wash
• Dry at lower temperature or air-dry
